Food for Thought

When was the last time you ran Windows Update (or Microsoft Update) on each of your Windows computers?

I do mine about once a week or once every few weeks. I'm not a network admin person though, and the rest of the crew in the office don't do it ever!

Another good thing I do every week or so is run a disk clean up and defrag in safe mode! Speeds up the machine ready for another week of 3D modelling!

Holy cow Jason! You should smack some sense into the crew. Is there an IT person in your office? It's easy to configure them update automatically. It's even easy to set up a WSUS server to gain some central control over everything (and it's free). Let me know if I can help?

David there is an IT person in the office and that is the Boss. He knows a bit about the IT side of things anything outside his experience, he gets his brother (who is an IT professional) in to sort it out. Being a small firm of 14 people there is no money for a dedicated IT person.

As for the crew doing the cleanups and the defrags, it dosent worry them HAHA they aren't really IT people!

The boss did have all the computers in the main office updating centrally from the server, but after a few months this fell behind. Down here in the smaller office we can't update from the main server as we are running over a VPN and due to upload limitations on our internet, it's much easier to complete updates on a single user basis.

And the funny thing is Daivd that they complain how slow their computers are! My common response is "Done a disk cleanup or defrag lataly?"

I fully understand. I've worked with clients of all sizes, so I am very familiar with your predicament. At least you have the diligence to keep your own house in order.
