Google CR-48 Chrome Book - More Thoughts on my Trial Experience

Some updated thoughts on my Google CR-48 "Chrome Book" trial:

  • The system boot-up time is f-ing amazing considering the meager hardware provisions.  Pop the battery in, press the power button, and the login screen is ready in 12-15 seconds.
  • Hibernation is (so far) flawless, and very fast to wake up
  • Switching from the "beta" build to the "developer" build is a one-way ticket.  Once you do it, there's no going back until the "beta" build supercedes the build number of the "developer" build (or so I'm told).
  • The latest dev build (I'm on 0.10.156.46) requires a reboot in order to update the volume control UI changes.  This build also improves the sensitivity of the touchpad, which is nice.
  • The battery life is pretty good.  Unplugged and sitting on a shelf it will hold a good charge for several days.  Under constant use it goes about 4 hours.  Streaming media tends to shorten that somewhat.
