Why is t...I forgot to mention one key aspect: Why. Why is the process becoming so "rigid"? It's simple. It is the side effect of a reduction of human-to-human interaction. Fewer sales and customer reps ever meet their customers in person, or anywhere near as often. This is obviously a cost reduction effort, and I'm sure it makes the beancounters happy. But the adverse reaction is that they become detached from their customers. So rather than being able to ask their own sales team for good candidates to invite, they rely on surveys and nominations and other impersonal processes.
